History and Mission
MHAGC is a volunteer run non-profit organization that was founded in 1957 by a Chicagoan named Clifford Beers. Mr. Beers was a former mental patient who dedicated his life to preventing mental illness and unnecessary hospitalizations, and to improving mental health services in the Greater Chicago area.
Mission Statement The Mental Health Association of Greater Chicago (MHAGC) is an independent, not-for-profit, volunteer Association founded in 1957. MHAGC is an advocate for the social and emotional health of children and families, and provides practical tools and educational training for identification, prevention, and referral of mental illness.
